Humane Education Presentations
A Women's Animal Center Humane Education Presentation teaches respect for living things and how to nurture compassion. Our presentations engage curiosity and creativity, and instill responsibility, compassion, empathy and respect for animals and people. All Humane Education Presentations that visit schools, organizations, public libraries and other groups incorporate the importance of character education traits, specifically responsibility, citizenship, kindness, respect and cooperation. All presentations aim to bring interesting lessons about animals and animal welfare.
Our current presentation offerings are as follows:
- Dogs: A Human's Best Friend (grades K-3rd) - Introduces children to the wonderful world of dogs! Kids will learn about various breeds, fun facts, and how to be safe around dogs, all while enjoying stories and interactive activities.
- Cats: Just Kitten' Around (K-3) – Children will explore the fascinating world of cats! They'll discover different breeds, learn about cat behavior, and find out how to care for these playful pets through engaging stories and interactive activities.
- Tiny Tails: Exploring Bunnies and Small Pets (K-3) - We'll get kids curious about rabbits and other small animals! Children will learn about different types of small pets, their care needs, and fun facts, all while enjoying interactive activities and stories that celebrate these adorable creatures.
- Paws of Courage: Animal Heroes (grades 4th - 5th) - Find exciting stories of animal heroes who have saved lives, assisted in emergencies, and provided unwavering support to humans in need. Children will learn about the various heroic roles animals play, fostering a deeper appreciation for their courage and loyalty.
- Service and Strength: The World of Working Animals (4th-5th) - Understand the different types of service animals, from guide dogs to therapy animals, and learn about their training and contributions. Children will gain insight into the unique bonds between humans and these remarkable animals, as well as the skills they provide in fields like rescue, law enforcement, and therapy.
- Paws and Claws: Animal Legends of Cinema (4th-5th) - Learn about the captivating roles of animals in film, highlighting their unforgettable performances and the stories behind them. We will delve into the impact these animal legends have had on cinema, showcasing their contributions to storytelling and entertainment.
- Animal Behavior and Safety (grades 6th-8th) - Discover how to interpret animal emotions and learn effective ways to interact with animals, ensuring their comfort and safety while promoting positive human-animal relationships.
- Creature Callings: Careers with Animals (6th-8th) - Dig into diverse career paths available for animal lovers in the field of animal welfare. Kids will discover how they can make a difference by working with animals in roles such as rescue, rehabilitation, veterinary care, advocacy and education.
- Animal Welfare: Past and Present (6th-8th) - Explore the history of Women's Animal Center, America's First Animal Shelter. Kids will learn about the Center's trailblazing women founders, history/legacy, and how our organization operates today to support pets and people through our lifesaving mission.
All presentations are approximately 1 hour in length. Depending on grade level, some presentations include a hands-on activity for students to complete during this time. Women's Animal Center will come to your location with activity specific supplies and can accommodate presentations for individual classrooms, or a single/entire grade level.
While presentations have been created with school students in mind, they also transition nicely to serve scout troops, library programs, senior centers and other groups. Please let us know how we can tailor the presentation to your organization's needs.
