Our Community Programs
Women's Animal Center may be best known for our animal shelter and veterinary hospital, but we are ultimately a Center serving people and their pets. Among the broad spectrum of services and resources we provide, our community programs remain at the heart of our mission. We are proud to be a part of local and national communities united by a shared love of and concern for the welfare of animals. Through our programming and because of our communities of animal advocates near and far, we are able to give voice to the voiceless.
Since our founding in 1869, Women's Animal Center has embraced education as a positive and powerful tool for children of all ages to advance the welfare of animals, and to strengthen the bonds of understanding, compassion, kindness and communication between humans and our four legged friends - ultimately enriching the lives of all. Women's Animal Center's educational community programs teach people of all ages to understand and care for animals by fostering compassion, kindness and respect:
- Understanding the connection between pets and the people who love them
- Fostering and strengthening the animal and human bond
- Teaching compassion and kindness to our future animal welfare advocates
- Sharing information about careers in animal welfare
- Teaching the basics of animal behavior and animal handling safety
- Providing engaging and fun ways to learn
