Our Animal Shelter
Women's Animal Center is proud to call ourselves America's First Animal Shelter, initiating a movement that has saved millions of lives in generations past and present. Since 1869, we have been committed to providing shelter, food and compassionate care to the Greater Philadelphia region's homeless animal population.
Women's Animal Center is a managed admissions shelter for cats, dogs and other small domestic companion animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and birds within the Lower Bucks County, Central Bucks, and Northeast Philadelphia region. We accept animals surrendered to us from this area regardless of age, breed, behavior or health. To increase the likelihood of lost pets being reunited with their families, we recommend that all animals found within Philadelphia city limits be taken to the city's municipal shelter, ACCT Philly.
Upon intake, each animal brought to Women's Animal Center is evaluated by our medical and behavioral teams before becoming available for adoption. Our goal is to rehome 100% of all healthy, and medically or behaviorally treatable animals with favorable post-treatment prognoses, and to reserve euthanasia only for those animals suffering terminally or determined to pose a danger to the public.
Women's Animal Center receives no federal, state or local government funding. We directly depend upon the invaluable support of our community to accomplish the lifesaving goals of our animal shelter. Monetary donations are accepted through our web site and greatly appreciated.
