Register for a Class
Classes are a fun and affordable way for your dog to learn manners, improve focus and build your human-animal bond. Women's Animal Center currently offers Basic Manners, Manners 2.0 and AKC Canine Good Citizen classes. Private Lessons are also available for dogs who may need more individualized attention.
Learn more about each of our training options by clicking on the class offerings to the right, or simply complete and submit the Dog Training Interest Form by clicking on the link below.
Dog training classes are held onsite at Women's Animal Center, at 3839 Richlieu Road in Bensalem, PA 19020. When weather and lessons permit, training may move outdoors to make use of the facility's grounds and play yards.
Women's Animal Center is conveniently located in close proximity to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 95. Free parking is available onsite.
Classes are one hour in length and can be scheduled on various weekdays and Saturdays. Private lessons can be scheduled at the mutual convenience of the client and trainer.
The registration fee for group classes, including both Basic Manners and Intermediate & Advanced Manners, is $155 for the full five-week class session. For Women's Animal Center adopters, the registration fee is discounted to $130 for the session.
Private lessons cost $235 for the public. For those animals adopted from the Women's Animal Center the cost is $210. Private lesson sessions run for five weeks.
Women's Animal Center requires that all dogs participating in our training classes be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks old.
We also require that all dogs be up-to-date with age-appropriate vaccinations including Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella.
If you have concerns about whether your dog would do well in a group setting, or if private lessons may be more appropriate, please contact training@womensanimalcenter.org, and we can help you determine the best choice for you and your dog.
Unless you have provided your dog's records to our trainers in advance, you are required to bring a copy of his or her's rabies vaccination certificate before participating in your first class. You may also have your veterinarian email a copy of the records to training@womensanimalcenter.org, but the email must be received before class begins.
For the first class and all classes thereafter, your dog must arrive to class wearing a flat collar, such as a buckle or martingale type, or a no-pull harness. Any of these can be purchased online or through most pet stores.
You will also need to supply your own high-value food rewards in a quantity to last for the duration of the one-hour training session. We recommend small, soft treats, as opposed to crunchy treats that are often not very different from your dog's kibble, so can be less of a motivator. Soft treats also take less time to chew, which facilitates faster training.
Rescheduling / Cancellation Policy
Training classes are in high demand and therefore we coordinate and prepare each instructor’s schedule with an understanding that it is the responsibility of each student to be on time and present for each class.
- If you are unable to make it to your class for any reason, please reach out to your instructor and/or training@womensanimalcenter.org as soon as possible. For group classes, your instructor will give you information on what was missed.
- You are provided with one (1) make-up class during your training session; classes last 5 weeks, and week 6 will be used as an all-purpose make-up day, if needed. Please make arrangements with your instructor to come to the make-up week if you need to do so.
- If you do not contact us, then your class will be considered missed, all monies paid forfeited, and a make-up class will not be scheduled.
- Missing more than two (2) classes will result in a forfeit of the missed classes and your payment. Additional make-up classes are not available.
- Cancellations more than 7 days prior to the class start date: payments may be refunded or used as a credit towards a future class.
- Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the class start date: payment is forfeited as your reserved spot has prevented another from participating; a new payment is required to reschedule.
- No refunds will be provided after the start date of the class.
- If you must miss multiple classes due to illness, injury or other circumstances, these will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Please reach out to your instructor and/or training@womensanimalcenter.org to make other arrangements.
In most cases, yes, previous training classes would qualify you and your dog for our Intermediate & Advanced Manners classes, even if you have not completed Basic Manners at Women's Animal Center.
