Food Enrichment
The shelter dogs of Women's Animal Center are fed one of their daily meals out of prepared KONGS, which are first filled with kibble, then packed with wet food and frozen before being served. This challenges the dogs to work for their food, providing them opportunities for problem solving, mental exercise, and using their mouths in the physical way that so many dogs need.
Food enrichment ultimately supports the emotional and physical wellbeing of our dogs during their time in the shelter - but also has these same supportive health benefits once they go to their adoptive homes!
Canine Food Enrichment
Women’s Animal Center can speak to the many benefits of food enrichment for your dog including various forms of food enrichment, and how it can keep dogs entertained, soothe anxious dogs, reduce behavior issues, and provide stimulation for bored pups.
There are do-it-yourself feeders and food puzzles, and top-rated items on the market today recommended by dog trainers. We recommend food dispensing toys, slow feeders and/or food puzzles to stuff, or KONGS that our shelter dogs also enjoy and that are stuffed with kibble.
